Generally, autonomous driving refers to a state in which a vehicle makes all decisions in place of humans, from departure to arrival, without intervention.

The levels of autonomous driving are typically divided into 1 through 5, with Level 4 being considered a critical threshold.

Although Tesla's autonomous driving technology is often praised, experts still rate it as around Level 2.5 to 3, falling short of true Level 4 capabilities. Even advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) developed by leading automakers remain at around Level 2.5.

In other words, while partial autonomous driving is achievable, ensuring complete safety equivalent to human life has not yet been realized.

Current technologies such as Smart Cruise Control (SCC) and Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) are already widely applied in vehicles, but they alone cannot guarantee safety.

Recently, attention has shifted toward AI camera technologies that recognize driving environments and make decisions accordingly, a key enabler of Level 4 autonomy. These include object recognition and scene understanding.

This technology enables AI cameras to autonomously determine potentially hazardous situations, record video streams, and upload them to the cloud for storage and management. During driving, it activates ADAS warnings in real time.

Unlike conventional object recognition—which only identifies units—video stream–based contextual interpretation allows the system to make decisions based on the overall situation. This contextual judgment significantly improves safety.

All data collected in the cloud can then be systematically analyzed to improve vehicle control, accident prevention, and driver behavior management.

A.I.Matics has continuously developed video recognition technologies for driving environments, holding over 50 patents in the automotive AI sector, and is investing heavily in both domestic and international R&D to expand advanced driver assistance services.

According to A.I.Matics Chief Research Officer Jin-Hyuk Kim:
“Our technology provides customers with value that existing solutions cannot. What matters most is developing future-oriented technologies that can deliver real value.”

Notably, A.I.Matics applies AI technologies across both cloud and edge computing, enabling flexible and scalable services.

The company also emphasizes customization: applying its proprietary AI video solutions not just to automotive applications but also across logistics, mobility, and industrial safety sectors.
